Ticket Scams Are Everywhere: Here is How We Built MNPR Tickets to Stop Them

7 September 2026

The secondary ticket market and online ticketing space have become an absolute minefield. Scams, artificial markups, and surprise checkout fees have been normalised for so long that most music fans simply expect to get burned somewhere along the way.

When we built MNPR Tickets, we took a hard look at the exact tactics, loopholes, and technical failures currently plaguing live music ticketing. Then, we engineered our platform to eliminate them at the source.

Here is how the most common industry pain points work, and exactly how we have fixed them.

1. Bots Hoarding Tickets in Seconds

The Problem: A major tour goes on sale, and within thirty seconds, the entire venue is "sold out." An hour later, hundreds of those exact seats appear on secondary marketplace sites at triple the original face value.

Automated scripts and scalping bots are designed to bypass standard checkout speeds, snatching up massive blocks of tickets before a human fan even has a chance to enter their payment details.

Our Fix: We deploy multiple invisible defense layers to keep the playing field level:

Per-Basket Limits: Restricting the number of tickets a single user can claim at once.

Device Tracking: Capping how many active reservations the same device can hold for one event at once, even across separate incognito windows.

Invisible Bot Detection: We built bot checks directly into the "Add to Basket" button itself. It remains completely invisible to genuine fans, but steps in when a request looks automated.

Managed Waiting Rooms: Queue systems during high-demand on-sales hold incoming traffic safely, preventing server crashes during a rush.

2. Speculative Selling (Selling Tickets That Don't Exist)

The Problem: On some unregulated resale platforms, sellers can list tickets they don't actually own yet. They take your cash up front, betting they can acquire a real ticket cheaper before the show date. If they fail to get one, you are left stranded at the door with a last-minute cancellation and no ticket.

Our Fix: Speculative selling is impossible on MNPR Tickets. A resale listing cannot be generated unless a verified, real ticket already exists inside a user's account on our database. You can never list or buy a ticket that hasn't already been issued.

3. Dynamic Surge Pricing

The Problem: You land on a ticket page at £45, but because thousands of other people are viewing the site at the same time, an algorithm quietly inflates the ticket price to £70 or £90 while you are mid-checkout.

Our Fix: We will never use dynamic pricing. A ticket price is set once by the artist or promoter, and it stays put. Popularity is never a reason to penalise the fans who care the most.

4. Drip Pricing and Hidden Fees

The Problem: Headline prices look reasonable until you reach the very last screen of checkout, where mandatory "processing," "facility," or "handling" fees are piled on top of your total.

Our Fix: Total transparency from step one. Every fee on our platform is shown upfront while you are browsing. The price you see on the event listing is the exact amount you pay at checkout. No last-second surprises.

5. Extreme Price Gouging on Resale

The Problem: A fan buys a ticket, finds out they can no longer attend, and lists it on a secondary site for double, triple, or ten times its face value. Legacy platforms actively encourage this because they take a percentage cut of the inflated resale price.

Our Fix: Capped face-value resale. If you buy a ticket on MNPR Tickets and can't make the show, you can re-list it through our system, but only ever at the exact price you paid. There is no option to type in a higher number, taking the profit motive out of secondary ticketing entirely.

6. Duplicated and Fake Tickets

The Problem: A scammer buys one legitimate digital ticket, duplicates the file dozens of times, prints fake seat numbers on the copies, and sells them to multiple unsuspecting buyers. At the venue door, the first person gets in, and everyone else is turned away with an invalid barcode.

Our Fix: Our venue scanning software doesn't just flash a green light when a code is scanned. It displays the exact seat, tier, and section tied to that ticket right on the door operator's screen, so a fabricated seat number gets caught by the person checking it, before anyone follows it to the wrong section.

7. Phishing Email Scams via Fake "Transfers"

The Problem: You receive an unexpected email claiming a ticket has been transferred to you, complete with a button asking you to "Log in to accept the transfer." Clicking the link leads to a convincing fake portal built to steal your account credentials.

Our Fix: Zero-friction ticket transfers. When a ticket is transferred on MNPR Tickets, it lands directly inside the recipient's account automatically. There are no confirmation emails to click, no verification links to follow, and no secondary login steps required. That removes the attack vector for this kind of phishing entirely.

8. System Out-of-Sync Errors at the Door

The Problem: You arrive at the venue, but the door scanner says your ticket has "already been used," even though your app clearly shows it as valid. This happens when a venue uses a third-party entry system that operates on a delayed sync with the primary ticketing database.

Our Fix: Single source of truth. Our door scanning software reads directly from the same live database as your account in real time. There are no secondary systems, external exports, or delayed syncs to fall out of step.

9. Cancelled Event Radio Silence

The Problem: A show is pulled, and fans are forced to chase customer support teams, fill out lengthy dispute forms, or wait months for their money to be returned.

Our Fix: Automatic refunds. The moment an event cancellation is confirmed, refunds are automatically triggered back to the original payment card for both the ticket price and the booking fee. No chasing, no forms, no stress.

Built By Listening

Most of these security features weren't built in a vacuum. They were developed because fans and artists told us about the exact roadblocks they were tired of dealing with elsewhere.

If you have run into a ticketing nightmare that isn't addressed here, let us know. We are constantly refining our technology to ensure live music stays fair, accessible, and secure for everyone.
